Winds in Conil in Spain

Levante and Poniente

There are two different winds in Conil.
The best wind for kite surfing is the Poniente. Being about 2-5 Beaufort strong, the Poniente is coming from the west and brings cooler air from the sea. He’s the dominating wind in Conil.

The wind from the east is called Levante. He’s building up a couple of days and might even reach 8-9 Beaufort. June and July are the best months for Levante.

Having his origin in Africa, the Levante is quite a warm wind. Windsurfers prefer the Levante more than kite surfers, because he’s blowing offshore and requires quite a high level of skills (especially crossing upwind).

In Spain they say that the Levante is making people crazy. Many of the older people in Conil are suffering from the strong wind and the doctor’s waiting room is always full of those.
